Early Flowering Evergreens

Most established evergreens don’t normally need regular pruning and tend to be fairly low maintenance. Early flowering evergreens are best left unpruned except for removal of unsightly shoots and deadheading, unless some shaping is required.

When to prune -

  • Evergreens should be pruned back after frost has finished to avoid frost damage on new growth. Mid-spring

  • Evergreen that flower mid-spring can be left until after flowering

What to prune -

  • Dead head flower that have gone over

  • branches that are weak or spindly in order to promote stronger growth in others
